AN ITALIAN DREAM - PART 2

Atrani, Amalfi, Positano & Sorrento

Posting a little later (a lot longer than anticipated) but I figured, life is pretty tough at the moment and everything feels so up in the air. Travel doesn’t seem possible for a while and seeing friends and family seems to be a minefield in knowing what you can and can’t do, so it’s the perfect time to escape through some imagery and imagine being in these beautiful places again. Grab a coffee, cozy on up and read on to, hopefully, be virtually whisked away to a beautiful spot in Italy. (This is a VERY picture heavy post!)

We started off our trip from Pompeii to Amalfi with a pit stop in Salerna, as we needed to get the bus from there. At first, Salerno seemed like an overly-commercial town, filled with designer shops and chain-resturants, however the more you wander and get a little lost the more you stumble across the most beautiful Italian churches, court yards, bars, houses, museums and streets. I wouldn’t say you need longer than a day there as there really isn’t much to do apart from a little shopping, if that’s your thing, and a lot wondering and cocktail-pit-stops. We then went on our very interested bus journey to the coast of Amalfi, all I will say is: you’re on a realtively small bus/coach filled with a CRAZY amount of people, it was 30 degrees if not hotter, the only way to get to Amalfi is by the extremley tiny, winding roads that drop straight down to the sea, and they drivers drive like crazy people out there. This is not fab if you get travel sick, like me!!!!

Atrani was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. Located right next to Amalfi, it was the perfect place to stay as it had the Amalfi vibes, but without the hoards and hoards of tourists - it felt more like a quaint little Italian beach town instead of an overly touristy holiday location, and it had so many lovely restaurants. Not only that, but the B&B we stayed in was beautiful too. Positano definitley lived up to it’s expectations, however it’s a very ‘go-there-for-the-gram’ type of place, you see all the Insta hubbies making an apperance and the girls, or guys, posing for the perfect picture. We managed to stumble across the less touristy areas that were filled with winding streets and Limoncella shops and tiny pizzerias. I really did like Positano, but I wouldn’t be in a rush to go back there. Where as Atrani is somewhere we would definitley visit again, especially for a couple of nights and then we could visit Capri!!

The day we were supposed to head to Capri had terrible weather warnings of storms so all the boat trips didn’t go ahead, which was a big shame but it’s just an excuse to go back there! Sorrento, was also another beautiful place. A location filled with dreamy views, an abundance of lemons, palm trees and overly priced resturants where you could sit outside, enjoy a cup of Italian coffee and watch the world go by. The weather was a little iffy when we visited, and we stayed just outside of Sorrento because we wanted to save a little money, but we had the cutest loveliest little beach at the end of the road and an amazing patisserie that we ended up going ot multiple times a day either for breaky or just have a break from the rain and to get a sugar rush from cream/nutella or jam infused croissants and of course, a limoncello spritz. But, on the day we actually went into Sorrento it was lovely. We were blessed with a couple thunderstorms and down pours which made us escape to those overly-priced restaurants where it was lovely to sit, rest, gather energy and watch the world go by. The beaches were beautiful, and the views were stunning.

Next up, the much-needed relaxing part of our travels…Sicily. YAY
